On March 26, the Southside Gateway planning team hosted a draft plan workshop with dinner at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Parish. The event provided another great opportunity for Southside Gardens and South Lorain residents to actively participate in shaping the future of their community.
Attendees were presented with the overall vision statement and the draft site plan for future redevelopment. The draft outlined the proposed location for new housing, plans for parks and redevelopment throughout the South Lorain neighborhood, and an updated draft of the Early Action Activity, which will be completed in 2024. Participants shared their unique perspectives and provided feedback on the updated design plans.
Central to the event were interactive stations where facilitators guided participants through draft goals developed by the Southside Gateway Working Groups on the topics of education, youth programming, workforce development, support services, public health & safety, and arts & culture. Participants expressed their thoughts and concerns and offered suggestions for refining the proposed goals.
After visiting all the stations and completing a "Choice Station Passport," participants had the chance to win prizes provided by the Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority (LMHA).
Strong event turnout reflected the community’s deep commitment to shaping the future of their neighborhood. Attendees departed with a sense of understanding and satisfaction, knowing their voices had been heard and their contributions would help steer development toward a brighter and more inclusive future for South Lorain.
